How To Style The Layering Trend This Season

Talking Trends: Let’s Talk Layers

It’s time to talk layers! 🍂
This week on Wednesday Wardrobing Live, I’ll be showing you how to master the layering trend — from dressy to casual and everything in between. Whether you’re reaching for a blazer, plaid shirt, sweatshirt, or vest, the key is to mix textures, proportions, and styles for looks that feel fresh, intentional, and uniquely you.

Blazers: From Structured to Oversized

Let’s start with blazers, one of fall’s most versatile pieces.

The She & Sky Tweed Blazer

This piece has that “wearing your boyfriend’s jacket” vibe — relaxed, oversized, and effortlessly stylish. The warm camel tweed makes it perfect for pairing with earthy tones.

Here’s how I’ll be styling it on the live show:

  • Over our Blu Pepper Plaid Boxy Shirt for a fun, unexpected twist
  • Layered with our She & Sky Sweater Vest in ivory for a polished, office-ready look
  • Combined with our Democracy Edge Tipped Shirt and She & Sky Tie Front Menswear Vest in black for a layered menswear-inspired outfit
  • Thrown over our Easel Wild West Sweatshirt for that cool, casual “dressed-down blazer” vibe

The Liverpool Velvet Blazer

On the other end of the spectrum, our Liverpool Velvet Blazer offers a fitted, more tailored silhouette. I’ll show it styled two ways:

  • Layered over our Blu Pepper Plaid Blouse for a smart casual combo
  • Dressed up with our She & Sky Pintuck Tie Front Blouse for an elegant, evening-ready outfit

Layering Vests: From Corduroy to Menswear

Vests are another big part of this trend — and this season, they’re everywhere. I’ll be showcasing a printed corduroy vest, styled over an ivory collared sweater and finished with our Liverpool Denim Jacket. The combination of textures gives dimension and interest to your outfit.

Menswear-inspired vests are also making a strong return. They can easily be worn under or over shirts, or even paired with casual pieces like graphic tees or sweatshirts for a fresh contrast.

The Secret to Layering Success

Getting creative is the real secret here — don’t limit yourself to only two layers.
Play with opposites: pair a structured blazer with a laid-back hoodie or a dressy vest over a casual flannel.

Layered looks also pair perfectly with a slim thigh bootcut jean. Avoid looser styles through the thigh — they can make the overall silhouette appear bulky or unpolished.

The beauty of this trend is its versatility. You can:

  • Dress it up for the office
  • Dress it down for the weekend
  • Maximize your wardrobe by mixing these layers with pieces you already own

How To Style The Barrel Leg Jean Trend

Wednesday Wardrobing – Wearing The Trends

If you’ve been scrolling fashion feeds lately, you’ve probably noticed a new denim silhouette showing up everywhere — the barrel leg jean. This style might look a little unfamiliar at first, but once you understand its shape and how to style it, it’s easy to see why it’s becoming one of the most talked-about denim trends of the season.

What Are Barrel Leg Jeans?

The name says it all — the shape mimics that of a barrel: narrow at the top and bottom, fuller through the middle. Most barrel leg pants have a straight leg opening and extra room through the thigh and knee area. Depending on how wide the leg is cut, the look can range from softly slouchy to intentionally voluminous.

Some fashion lovers like to cuff the hem for that slightly undone, “I care, but I really don’t care” vibe that makes this trend so wearable.

A Little Style History

Barrel leg jeans are a modern evolution of earlier styles — think 1980s “mom jeans” meets 1990s relaxed fits, reimagined for today’s structured, tailored aesthetic. The shape feels current but gives a quiet nod to vintage utility styles that celebrated comfort and movement.

How We’re Styling the Trend

This week on Wednesday Wardrobing, I’m diving into this silhouette and showing three ways to wear the barrel leg look — from knit and casual to denim and elevated. Here’s a sneak peek at what I’ll be featuring tonight!

This look is our non barrel leg, barrel leg jean from Democracy for those who want to try the trend without going full in. You can grab this look here:

Look One: J.O.A Knit Barrel Leg Pant

From J.O.A, a division of Blu Pepper, these coffee-colored knit barrel leg pants are an easy introduction to the trend. They feature an elastic waist, two front cargo-style pockets, and two back pockets. The main fabric is a textured, stretchy knit that’s comfy yet polished, while the pockets are made from smooth cotton for contrast.

Since these pants have an elevated sweatpant feel, I’ve styled them with a cropped sweater with ruched sleeves and a quilted vest in brown. These layers dress up the pants just enough, keeping the look relaxed but refined — perfect for those casual fall days when you want to look put-together but comfortable.

👖 Look Two: Democracy Barrel Leg Jean

Next up is the Democracy Barrel Leg Jean, which brings a dose of retro cool to the mix. The medium blue wash with light distressing gives it that 80’s-inspired feel, and each leg features three darts along the side for added detail and shaping. Like all Democracy jeans, it includes their signature Absolution® technology — a tummy control panel and no-gap waistband for a smooth, flattering fit.

I’ve paired this jean with a cropped bubble hem top, also from Democracy. The shorter top length balances the fullness of the barrel leg, creating a flattering proportion that works on all body types.

🩶 Look Three: The “Non-Barrel” Barrel Leg

For those who want to try the trend without fully committing, this last option is for you. This jean has seaming details that mimic a barrel shape but is technically a straight leg. It gives you the look without the volume — perfect if you prefer something more subtle.

To balance the silhouette, I’ve added a cropped sweater vest with bows layered over a soft striped shirt that can be tucked in. The combination feels playful yet polished — a great mix for transitioning into fall.

Styling Tips for Barrel Leg Jeans

Because barrel leg jeans are fuller through the leg, it’s important to balance your outfit with a more fitted or cropped top. If your top is too loose or long, the proportions can overwhelm your frame and make the outfit appear boxy.

For shoes, go with chunkier-soled boots or loafers. The added weight on the bottom balances out the wider silhouette — especially if you like to cuff your jeans.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re a denim devotee or a comfort-first dresser, the barrel leg trend offers the perfect mix of structure and ease. It’s fashion-forward without being fussy — and that’s a balance I’ll always love.

So tell me — are you ready to give barrel leg jeans a try?

Fall/Winter Accessory Trends You’ll Love | Wednesday Wardrobing

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another Wednesday Wardrobing Live Video! 🎉 Join me tonight at 6 p.m. MST on our Fashion Crossroads Facebook business page as we continue our Fall/Winter Trends Series. Can’t make it live? No worries—you can always catch the replay on our YouTube Channel, where I’ve posted all of our past episodes on everything from dressing your body type to choosing your best colors, styling tips after 40, and so much more.

Tonight, we’re diving into one of my favorite topics—accessories! This season’s trends are playful, bold, and designed to completely refresh your look. Accessories are one of the easiest (and most affordable!) ways to stay on trend, so let’s talk about the must-haves you’ll want in your closet this year:

✨ Statement Earrings

Big, bold, and impossible to ignore—this season your earrings should do the talking. Think chunky gold and silver hoops, whimsical bow shapes, and the always classic (but on-trend) pearls. They instantly add polish to any outfit.

✨ Quilted Everything

We’re not just talking jackets—quilting is everywhere this season, even on denim. But the star of this trend is handbags. Picture your favorite puffy vest turned into a chic statement bag—that’s the look.

✨ Cowboy Boots

The Western Chic trend continues strong, and cowboy boots are getting a dressy makeover. Watch for embroidery, metallic shimmer, bold color-blocking, and even hardware details. They’re fun, fashion-forward, and wearable well beyond the rodeo.

✨ Ballet Flats

Your feet will thank you for this one—ballet flats are back in a big way. Look for modern updates like square toes, bows, and metal hardware that take the classic work shoe to stylish new heights.

✨ Interactive Bags

If you’ve ever loved cuddling into a cozy chenille sweater, you’ll love this trend. Textured handbags are big this season, with soft fabrics and fun charms like tassels and add-ons that make your bag feel almost interactive—like fashion that’s fun to touch. Also look for printed straps as a way to personalize your handbag.

✨ Slouchy Vibes

Above are pictured the Pier handbag from HOBO in Peacock Feather and Rust as well as the Harley Handbag in Dark Elm. Find these bags in our HOBO Collection –

Slouchy handbags and boots are the perfect companions to your soft knits this season. They bring a relaxed yet stylish feel that looks effortless while staying on trend.

Image from TrendLines Fall/Winter 2025 – Boutique Hub

Fashion lovers, we’ve talked about color trends and style trends for the upcoming season—and if you missed those videos, you can catch the replays anytime on our YouTube channel. 💻

Tonight at 6 p.m. MST, join me live on Facebook for Wednesday Wardrobing Live as we dive into the must-know fabric trends for Fall/Winter 2025.

These are the key prints and textures you’ll be seeing everywhere this season—and how to style them to keep your wardrobe fresh, current, and on-trend. 🍂

🐍 Snake Prints

Animal prints are back in a big way, and snake print is leading the charge. A little goes a long way—think handbags, shoes, or belts for an edgy accent. If a full snake print blouse or skirt feels intimidating, start small with accessories to ease into this bold trend.

🧣 Tartan & Plaids

Classic tartan and cozy plaid patterns are fall staples, showing up on shackets, oversized shirts, scarves, and even coats. To keep the look polished, let your plaid piece be the star—layer it over neutral basics and solid colors.

✨ Velvet

Few fabrics say “holiday season” like velvet. This year, it’s showing up on everything from blazers to dresses. Soft, plush, and undeniably luxe, velvet instantly adds richness and depth to your look—perfect for the festive months ahead.

♟️ Gingham

gingham is traditionally seen in summer, but it’s getting a cold-weather makeover. Look for gingham in blouses layered under cardigans or blazers, or as subtle accent pieces that bring a playful check to your winter layers.

⚪ Polka Dots

Timeless and fun, polka dots add a touch of whimsy to your wardrobe. This season, they’re making a statement in black-and-white combinations on blouses and skirts—and they’ll stay strong into Spring 2026.

🤠 Western Denim

Western-inspired details are everywhere in denim right now. Look for yoke backs, pearl snaps, and contrast stitching on shirts and jeans. Style them with fringe, leather, and chunky sweaters to nail the modern cowboy-cool vibe.

🌼 70’s Prints

Bright, bold, and psychedelic, 1970s-inspired prints are having a moment. Think groovy swirls, geometric patterns, and vibrant color combos—perfect for anyone who loves a playful, statement-making look.

🧥 Faux Fur

faux fur is roaring back this season! Expect long, dramatic fur coats on the runway and in stores. Not ready to commit to a full coat? Try touches of faux fur on collars, cuffs, or trim for a subtle nod to this cozy-glam trend.

4. Layering Textures

This fall is all about rich tactile combinations—try corduroy with fleece, silk under wool, or knits with leather. The more layered and cozy, the better.

Back To Routine, But Make It Stylish

How to Transition Your Wardrobe Without Losing Your Cool (Literally or Figuratively)

As August winds down and schedules ramp back up, it’s time to shift gears—from lazy summer mornings to packed planners and pumpkin-spiced everything. But just because the routine is back doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to be boring. In fact, it’s the perfect excuse to refresh your closet with pieces that are equal parts functional and fabulous.

This week at Fashion Crossroads], we’re loving all the stylish new arrivals from Charlie B and Foxcroft, brands that know how to do transitional dressing right. Whether you’re heading into the office, school drop-off, or just trying to look like you didn’t get dressed in the dark, we’ve got you covered.

🍂 Let’s Talk Fall Transition

1. Flared Jeans Are Back, Baby
Yes, Gen X—you can wear flares again (and look amazing doing it)! The flared leg jean is making a comeback, and we are here for it. It’s flattering, leg-lengthening, and pairs perfectly with your favorite wedges now, or ankle boots later. Try them with one of our new lightweight sweaters for a look that’s chic but never try-hard.

2. Cropped Wide Leg Twill Pants
These pants are chef’s kiss for transitional dressing. Breezy enough for August heat when paired with sandals, and easy to pair with a 3/4 length boot as temps drop. We love them with a tucked-in tee and a layered necklace stack for now, then with a light weight sweater or structured Foxcroft blouse and loafers for fall.

3. Lightweight Sweaters = Your Secret Weapon
Not quite ready for pumpkin patches and chunky knits? Enter the lightweight sweater. It adds polish without bulk and is perfect for cool mornings and air-conditioned offices. We’ve got fresh styles in seasonless colors—great now, better later.

4. Foxcroft Blouses in Fall-Forward Colors
These beauties are made in breathable 100% cotton or cotton blends, so you’ll stay cool while looking like you’re fully embracing fall. Rich jewel tones and classic black and navy give off autumn vibes without trapping heat. Wear them now with polished capris, and later with slacks or denim. Style tip: Roll the sleeves for a relaxed early-fall look, then button them down when the breeze kicks in.

💡 Style Shortcuts for Busy Mornings

  • Pre-plan your outfit the night before—Bonus points if it includes a versatile piece like a Foxcroft blouse or cropped twill pant.
  • Embrace the “uniform” mindset: Have 3 go-to outfit combos that always work—like flare jeans + sweater + pendant necklace or blouse + cropped pants + loafers.
  • Layer with intention: Keep a neutral cardigan or blazer by the door. Instant polish.
  • Accessorize in 60 seconds: Statement earrings or a layered necklace stack can make anything look pulled together.
  • Don’t fight the weather: Think “seasonal color, summer weight.” Darker cotton blouses give you that fall feeling without the sweat.

Final Thought:
Back-to-school may be for the kids, but back-to-routine is for all of us. Let’s make it stylish. Join us tonight at 6 p.m. MST on Facebook or Instagram Live for Wednesday Wardrobing—I’ll be showing off these new arrivals and how to wear them now and next.

How To Wear Green Without Looking Like A Leprechaun

Wednesday Wardrobing: How to Wear Green Without Looking Like a Leprechaun
Featuring Our Olive You The Most Collection

Green: it’s bold, it’s beautiful, and it’s not just for St. Patrick’s Day. But let’s be honest—it’s also a color that can go terribly wrong if not styled with intention. The good news? When done right, green adds richness, vibrancy, and a bit of natural flair to your look. This week, we’re talking all things green—what to do, what not to do, and how to use pieces from our Olive You The Most Collection to pull off this earthy hue like a pro.

💚 Why Green?

Green symbolizes growth, renewal, and balance. It evokes feelings of harmony, freshness, and peace—who doesn’t need a little of that in their life? Wearing green can boost your mood and make you feel grounded and confident. It’s also a flattering color on a wide range of skin tones, especially olive and sage tones.

✅ DO: Make Green the Star of the Show

One of the easiest ways to wear green is to let it be the main focus of your outfit. Pick one key green piece and keep the rest neutral.

Try this:
Our Democracy Olive Slim Straight Leg Jeans are the perfect example. Pair them with a soft ivory blouse or white tee and let the olive hue take center stage. Add a nude shoe and gold jewelry, and you’re out the door in five, looking completely put together.

❌ DON’T: Overdo It

Unless you’re going for a full monochrome look (which can be tricky), avoid piling on too many green items. You want it to feel intentional—not like you got dressed in the dark. When you mix green’s make sure they are from the same hue. For example, a top in a dark olive and a handbag in a lighter version of the same color. Mixing greens can go off the rails fast!!

🎯 DO: Use Green as a Pop of Color

Green makes for a fantastic pop when used in accessories like handbags and jewelry. It adds just enough interest without dominating your look.

Try this:
Pair your favorite denim and white tee combo with the HOBO Fern Top Handle Shoulder Bag or HOBO Advance Shoulder Bag in Watercress. The color is fresh, unexpected, and brings instant style points. Layer on the Kendra Scott Sylvia Necklace in Pink Chalcedony for a dreamy, beachy finish that complements the earthy tones. Finish with an olive green tennis shoe in the same hue as the handbag.

👖 How to Style Green Pants

Green pants might sound intimidating, but they’re surprisingly versatile. Think of them like khakis or dark denim.

Style Tip:
Pair our Charlie B Slim Leg Chino in Olive with the Staccato Stripe V-Neck Top in peach and olive. The chevron stripe detail ties the look together, while the rolled sleeve and high-low hem keep it laid-back but polished. Add a crossbody bag like the HOBO Romy in Rose to pick up the peach tones, and you’ve got a balanced, beautiful outfit.

🧠 BONUS: Green Works Year-Round

  • Spring/Summer: Go for lighter olive and sage tones. Keep the look fresh with white, beige, or blush accents.
  • Fall/Winter: Deepen your green game with forest or hunter tones, and pair with black, camel, or burgundy.

Final Thoughts

Green doesn’t have to be scary. In fact, it might just become your new favorite neutral. Whether it’s pants, a top, or just a fabulous bag, adding green to your wardrobe brings life, personality, and style to your everyday looks.

Watch my Wednesday Wardrobing video on Facebook at 6 p.m. MST to see examples!

So go ahead—Olive You The Most, and you should too. 💚
Happy Wardrobing!
