Top Tips for Shopping Sidewalk Sales

  1. Come Prepared: Make a list of what you need and want. This helps you stay focused and ensures you don’t overlook any must-have items.
  2. Dress Comfortably: Wear comfortable shoes and lightweight clothing. You’ll be doing a lot of walking and browsing, so comfort is key.
  3. Arrive Early: The best deals often go quickly. Arriving early gives you the best chance to snag those coveted items before they’re gone.
  4. Set a Budget: It’s easy to get carried away with all the discounts. Set a budget to avoid overspending and ensure you get the most value for your money.
  5. Check for Quality: Sometimes, items on sale can be slightly damaged or irregular. Take the time to inspect each item to ensure you’re getting a good deal.
  6. Bring Cash: Some vendors might offer better deals for cash purchases. It also helps you stick to your budget.
  7. Try Things On: If possible, try on clothing and accessories to ensure they fit well and look good on you. Many sidewalk sales have fitting areas or allow returns, so take advantage of this.
  8. Layer Up: If you’re shopping for clothing, wear a tank top or camisole underneath. This makes trying on tops and jackets easier and quicker.
  9. Stay Hydrated: Shopping can be exhausting, especially in the summer heat. Bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated and energized.
  10. Have Fun: Sidewalk sales are a great way to find unique items at amazing prices. Enjoy the experience and the thrill of the hunt!

Shop The Sales Like A Boss: Part II

10 Tips for How to Be a Smart Sale Shopper

Sales can be a fantastic opportunity to score some great deals, but they can also be overwhelming and lead to impulsive purchases that you might regret later. To help you navigate sales like a pro, we’ve compiled 10 more tips for how to be a smart sale shopper. Whether you’re shopping our latest “Accessorize With Color” collection or looking for other fashion steals, these tips will ensure you make the most out of every sale.

1. Don’t Trust The Size

Sometimes items end up on the sale racks because they were mis-sized by either the vendor or the store. When you are shopping sales, always look at the item and see if the size seems correct. When in doubt, try it on.

2. Check The Displays

Sales sections can get chaotic and shoppers do not always put things back where they belong. If you find a sales item that you love, but it isn’t in your size, check the other racks to see if it was put back wrong. It is also a good idea to check the store displays. Sometimes items get missed in a markdown.

3. Do Your Research

Research the regular prices of the items you’re interested in. This way, you can determine if the sale price is genuinely a good deal.

4. Check For Duplicates

Before you take your item to the counter, check the rack to see if the same item is also on sale in a different color. Compare the sales prices. If there is a discrepancy, point it out to a sales associate. You may end up getting an even better deal.

5. Examine The Item

Stores are motivated to move sales items, so be sure to check it over for damages. Are all the buttons there? Are the seams okay and not coming apart? Do the zippers work? Are all the hook and eyes attached? Finding damages can save you even more money.

6. Check Return Policies

Before making a purchase, familiarize yourself with the store’s return policy. This is especially important during sales, as some items might be final sale.

7. Avoid Asking For A Bundle Deal

If you are not shopping in a market setting where bartering is common, don’t try to barter. Most brick and mortar stores do not barter with customers, and it just makes sales people mad. The only legitimate way to get a further discount is because the item is damaged or mispriced.

8. Use Coupons and Promo Codes

Look for additional discounts through coupons and promo codes. During our live sales at Fashion Crossroads, we often share special promo codes that are only valid for the day.

9. Think About Versatility

When considering a sale item, think about how it fits into your existing wardrobe. Choose pieces that can be mixed and matched easily to get the most wear out of them.

10. Don’t Be In A Rush

Good sales shopping takes time. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to wander, look over the racks and the store so you don’t miss any good deals.

How to shop sales like a BOSS!

o-CLOTHES-SHOPPING-facebook-1

It’s summer clearance sales time, and I know you are rubbing your hands together in eager anticipation of all the great deals you are going to find.  I know the routine. You plan your shopping day, pack your tote, add some water, and off you go.  But when you get there, the sheer number of overcrowded, disorganized racks is daunting.  With clothes on the floor and draped over the racks, sales shopping quickly becomes way too much work.  Does this sound like you?

Let me give you some tips and tricks to make sales shopping a little easier:

  1. Have a list:  When you head out with nothing in your brain except scoring on some cheap prices, you end up buying items that, while they may be cheap, really don’t fit in your wardrobe.  Just because it’s cheap, doesn’t mean you should buy it.  The most expensive items in your closet are the cheap ones that you never wear!
  2. Try everything on:  Take it from me, if it is on the sales rack, there is a reason.  The best items are there because they were just too expensive to begin with.  These are the real steals.  But many items are there because there was a fit issue. If you see 6 of one style on the sale rack, avoid it. That is a true indication there is a problem with the item.  The best sales items will have only 1 or 2 left.
  3. Shop early: Get there first.  The best of the best sell right away.  Don’t wait until the racks have been decimated by all the shoppers before you!
  4. Shop alone: Friends are awesome, but they are not always helpful when you are shopping.  We all have a bias towards what we like, and so often I see friends and family imposing their personal tastes on others to the detriment of the shopper.  Meet your friends or family for lunch after your shopping is finished and brag about all your great finds!
  5. Get On The Notification Lists: The best way to get notified about sales is to be on your favorite store’s marketing list.  Whether they send out post cards, emails or texts (all all three).  t the end of the day, your favorite stores communicate with you primarily via email.  If you want to get a jump on the sales, you have to read those emails.
  6. Join the VIP Group:  Most stores will have a Facebook Group that is for their VIPs.  Typically, one of the perks of being on these lists is early notification of sales.  And, if it is a favorite store, you may want to know about other things like new arrivals of your go to brands.

Following these 6 tips should make sale shopping really beneficial to you and not overwhelming and exhausting.  It’s a great time to take advantage of discounted prices and round out your summer wardrobe.

Join me live tonight around 6 p.m. as I go over these tips in my weekly Wednesday Wardrobing Series.  You can catch me live on Facebook or Instagram.
