I discovered today that Wednesday is National Hat Day, and I love hats so I decided it was a worthy topic for my blog. This past Easter, I decided to wear a hat with my dress. There is just something about a hat that makes you feel all dressed up. The problem was I was one of the very few women at church that day with a hat on. So instead of feeling beautiful, I felt conspicuous. It’s too bad that many in Wyoming have lost an affinity for hats. Certainly the general casual nature of our area has everything to do with this, but let me advocate, just for a minute for their return to favor. Hats signify classy lady and they say, “I’m all put together.” They remind me of a time gone by when women matched their suits, hats, handbags, shoes and nail polish. But a hat can also announce you as a fan of a specific team or remind others to be happy. They can set you apart as your own person the way a fedora does worn with skinny jeans and a vest. They can hint at the exotic like a french beret or announce you as an outdoor winter sports fan when you wear a ski hat. Like so many elements of good fashion, a hat expresses an aspect of your personality. Here in Wyoming, a cowboy hat says, “I’m wild west, all the way!” So whether you choose a baseball hat, newspaper boy hat, coyboy hat or any other kind of hat, let’s celebrate National Hat Day! Here is my encouragement to you this Wednesday. Get in that closet and find your favorite hat. Take a picture of yourself in it and post it on your facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/#!/FashionCrossroads. The hat picture with the most likes gets a “Caught You LOOKING GOOD!” card worth 25% off a regularly priced item at Fashion Crossroads or FC Outlet.
